At the risk of sounding a little too “Jerry Seinfeld” I’m going to start by asking, “Am I the only one who notices the fact that Leslie Stahl, venerable reporter with CBS News best known for her long-standing gig with 60 Minutes, doesn’t seem to know how to apply her own lipstick?
\nOK, in her defense, I’d have to guess that Leslie doesn’t actually apply her own make-up before going on camera for 60 Minutes. It’s not absolutely certain but she no doubt has a professional make-up artist doing that for her, albeit only with her direction.
\nI’m actually a fan of 60 Minutes. I, like throngs of other geezers and boomers, have been watching that TV show for decades. Along with the rest of America, I’ve grown up \u2014 or more accurately, grown old with \u2014 with the anchors of that show.
\nTivo’d from last night’s broadcast, I watched it tonight.
\nAlthough it seems that the 120-year-old Don Hewitt and CBS can see that some of these folks have just been around too long and are trying to bring new blood on to the show like the little Brit hottie Lara Logan, and Katie Couric and Anderson Cooper, they still have the frail Morely Safer the gazillion-year-old Mike Wallace and that ghost at the end.
\nDon’t misunderstand, I’m no agist. I admire and respect the elderly and I even applaud CBS for not subscribing to what seems to be a culture that’s indifferent to experience and bent on youth, constantly handing bouquets to confused, drug-addled tweens.
\nAnd I think Leslie Stahl is a very attractive woman. It’s just her lipstick.
\nEvery week I see her and I think, either she was just too drunk when she put her lipstick on or she needs to get new contact lenses. She tends to put lipstick on parts of her face that aren’t lips at all like she is trying to look like Angelina Jolie.
\nBut she looks more like Lucille Ball.
\nI think Lucy had lips that were shaped that way and Angelina just has lips for days but when Leslie comes on camera she looks to me like somebody who just left Tony’s Steak and Seafood where she pounded three bourbon and waters and put her cigarette out in the butter.
\nI’m likely to take some shit for this post. My wife tells me that I shouldn’t make fun of her because she’s an older woman, that she’s too easy a target. She says that if I feel the need to make fun of someone, I should make fun of Andy Rooney.
\nI don’t know.
\nHow is it OK to make fun of an old man who needs to take some hedge trimmers to his eyebrows but it’s not OK to make fun of a woman who is, older?
\nFinally, let me clarify. I love Leslie. She’s a talented, skillful and accomplished journalist. She’s even hottie … for her age.I just wish she would change either the color or volume of her lipstick or try iced tea next time she has lunch at Tony’s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
